Ok folks, here is my tutorial on how to break 80 on the golf course. If you have a good enough swing (that is, natural talent), you will be able to accomplish this goal within two years depending on how close you are to 80 right now. Remember my article when you are on the course and you will see the results you have been dreaming of in this great game.
Firstly, spend 3 hours a week at the driving range working on your long irons, wedges, woods, and drivers. It is imperative that you have adopted the confidence in your swing to be able to hit every shot whether you are in the rough, bunkers, or on the fairway. This is the single biggest problem I see with golfers who have potential. They have the talent, but squibbing shots on various holes throughout they're rounds puts them in terrible positions and just doesn't equate to low scoring. Make sure that when you are on the course that you feel confident that you will make a good impact with the ball on every shot and of course make sure that you are able to hit it in the general areas you are wanting to. All I can say is that this kind of confidence is only achieved when you go to the driving range like you go to the gas station . Golf is a confidence game, stay cool and think on your feet and you can achieve your goals.
Secondly, spend 3 hours a week on the putting green, preferrably one on the course where you like to play the most. The practice greens are usually filled with folks looking to improve they're game however they usually don't even go about practicing this incredibly important skill properly for the most part. Of the many holes that are on the practice green go off to to the side, and get in your short game mode. Use about 6 balls and work on swinging the putter like a pendulum (the Ben crenshaw method). Learn to trust how hard you are going to hit a putt in accordance to the length of putting stroke you are making. You better know your putting stroke as good as you know your irons and woods or you are not going to break 80 so I suggest that if you are not confident with your putting that you soak in every second that you are on that practice green. Learn to play the breaks in putts using the proper speeds to turn tough putts into sure two-putts. In order to consistently shoot 80, three-putts need to be cut out and eliminated from your game immediately. You must learn to trust your putting stroke just as much as you trust you golf
