Contrary to the popular belief, Karachi is not just home to some of the best medical and business schools but it also has some of the best art institutions in the country. If you are considering travelling to Karachi for an amazing college experience and get a degree or diploma in arts then the following colleges fulfill that criteria.
Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture:
Granted the Sind Government Charter in 1994, Indus Valley School is an independent degree awarding institution and one of the top colleges in the country. IVS offers Bachelors in Fine Art, Communication Design, Textile Design, Architecture and Interior Design. Within these disciplines a myriad of courses are offered which hone the student’s creative and analytical skills to a very high degree. Admission is granted on merit and how one scores on their test which is taken every August or September. In addition to the degree courses, liberal arts courses are also offered in which history of film and creative writing are taught.

Visual Arts Department, Karachi University:
The University of Karachi is one of the oldest institutions in the country. The Visual Studies department is a relatively young department but has produced its share of art aficionados during its ten year tenure. It offers courses in Fine Arts, Architecture, Textile and Industrial Designing. In addition to these courses in ceramics and glass, art history and Islamic arts are also being offered. Admission is granted on an aptitude and drawing test which is conducted around September and October. Classes begin in January.
Karachi School of Art:
The Karachi School of Art offers diplomas in Fine Art, Textile Design, Communication Design and Digital Media. The academic year commences in October after the conduction of tests and interviews. Many graduates of the KSA have become renowned painters and designers in their fields.
Asian Institute of Fashion Design:
The AIFD is the art organ of the Iqra University and offers degrees in Fashion and Textile Design. Graduates of AIFD have gone on to become managers at world famous retailers like H&M and TopShop. Students learn how to create clothes and think outside the box when it comes to manipulating fabric. Admissions are merit based and scholarships are also offered.
