People today are looking for hope and help in time of need. They look for a champion who will take up their cause. They look for someone to believe in.
There is good news! The Bible teaches that we can put our faith in the Creator of the Universe, the Lord God Jehovah because He is trustworthy. When our backs are to the wall, and we wonder what to do, our faith in God keeps us from quitting and gives us hope.
*How to find faith
The Apostle Paul provides the answer in his letter to the believers in Rome. He says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17, KJV) The accounts of His faithfulness to others assure us of His interest in our affairs. In essence God gives us the faith to believe in Him (Ephesians 2:8). It is important to realize that believing is more than just an intellectual assent. Faith must be demonstrated by righteous actions to be valid (James 2:17). As we learn about God by reading the Bible, our faith is increased and our trust in God grows stronger and more certain.
*How our faith leads to a better life
It becomes clear that obedience brings blessing and disobedience brings correction. Keeping ourselves from disobeying God is much easier when we learn what displeases Him by reading the Bible.
The Apostle John wrote in 1 John 5:3, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.” Obedience to God’s commands is very difficult to implement on a regular basis. We have a natural desire to seek to please ourselves. Plus there are many worldly temptations that are in direct conflict to the commands of God. In the Bible, the definition of “world” is everything that is not of God, essentially Satan’s system. However John makes an important point. He teaches that if we love God, we will strive to obey Him. Faith is our love for God expressed by our obedience to His commands.
*The power of faith helps us overcome the world
God wants believers to love Him more than anything or anyone else. When we love Him with all of our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37), we will discover that His will is all that matters to us. When we seek to please Him, we will not give in to the temptations of the world. John explains in 1 John 5:4, “For whatsoever is born of
