Even when you enjoy your job there are times, when it seems like you are trying to swim through treacle. It is important to stay motivated, even when it seems so hard. You should try to remain motivated for many reasons including the following.

Another word for motivation is drive, without the drive to propel you forwards in your career, you will not seize career opportunities. You may lack the enthusiasm to volunteer for projects, or assignments, that could lead to better things. You might also lack the enthusiasm to work towards promotion and become disillusioned with your job.

If you have no enthusiasm, you might well get into a negative frame of mind. This can lead to stress and depression. Being in a negative state can mean that you do not ask for necessary training, to equip you for promotion or advancement. It can also lead to a lack of confidence in your own ability. Long-term negativity can lead to mental health problems and depression. To keep your motivation and avoid negativity, concentrate on the positive aspects of your job, and remember that any temporary problem is one that will pass.

You should try to retain your motivation and enthusiasm because, otherwise, your productivity may suffer. If your boss or colleagues notice the fall in your productivity, you may lose your job.

If you are unmotivated, doing your job badly, and unenthusiastic, your boss will notice. You will one day want to move on, or up, and you will want a good reference from your present boss.

When anyone in the workplace is feeling negative, that negativity is highly infectious. Your negative feelings and demeanour could affect your colleagues and, thus, their productivity and morale.

Do not forget that we all have bad days at work from time to time, days when everything seems like an uphill struggle. Busy days, when the day flies by and it seems that we have accomplished little, or days when crisis follows crisis. There will be days, when even a job that you adore, grates on your nerves. One, or even a couple of days, like this is the blink of an eye in the great scheme of things, and it is important to maintain your motivation and enthusiasm, even when it is difficult to do so. If you do, you will have mastered one of the keys that will open the magic door to a successful career.
