Fall is a wonderful time of year, and between all the holidays, there are plenty of reasons to create some seasonal decorative pieces to add to the festivities of the changing seasons. Acorns are a fun way to add some zest to any decor, so here are a few crafty pieces that you can make with little supplies.
Acorn Garland
Garlands are commonly seen draping over doorways, around banisters, and trees through the holidays. The wonderful thing about garlands are that they can be made of anything you choose, and they are relatively easy to make. With a sturdy needle, some strong thread and several dozen acorns, you can create a sweet little acorn garland to accent your front porch or doorway for a touch of fall. Simply thread your needle and one by one pierce your acorns, and slide them onto the thread. Creating the length you want as you go can be easily done by leaving your thread attached to the bobbin rather than cutting it before adding your acorns. For a little extra touch of fall you can add scented pine cones, colorful dried leaves, or even lightweight plastic fruits which are colored in the usual colors of the season.
Acorn Accented Wreath
Hanging a wreath outside of the doorway, using one as a centerpiece on a table, or as a candle holder accent are just a few things that you can use an acorn accented wreath for. Creating a wreath is almost as simple as creating a garland but requires a bit more supplies, and time. You will need a Styrofoam ring- which can be purchased at any craft store, hot glue, ribbon, acorns, and any other accent you may want to add. Again, scented pine cones would make a lovely accent, but beautiful flowers in shades of deep reds, pumpkin oranges, and golden yellows would be great to invite in the Autumn season. Start by wrapping your ribbon around the ring to cover any Styrofoam from showing, then begin hot gluing your acorns, and flowers- or other accents- around your ring. Hot glue will dry quickly so be sure to have everything planned ahead as to how you would like to arrange your wreath. Once it's complete, your wreath is ready to hang.
There are many craft projects you can do using acorns, and these are just a few of the simpler projects to add a little touch of Autumn to your home decor during the season.
