I recently read a troubling report that said businesses are hiring mostly already employed people. What? Why would they do that? It doesn’t make sense especially when there are many unemployed people looking for a job, any job. Many people are unemployed through no fault of their own, yet we have businesses flying people to them for interviews, that are already employed. They spend thousands of dollars trying to recruit someone else’s employee when they could have spent only hundreds to train someone who is unemployed. It really doesn’t make sense when the current administration passed a bill that would not require businesses to pay the 6.2% tax on each employee.
Businesses don’t care what happens to the economy, they are just looking to make a profit. In a sense, they are holding the rest of the country hostage. They are the ones that are responsible for employment remaining above 9%. Their reasoning is that, if you were able to stay employed through this economic downturn then you are the best of the best? Are you kidding me? You have many very qualified individuals who would take a pay cut just to start earning something for them and their families only to be told we are not going to hire you because you’re unemployed.
So this is the road America businesses are going down huh. They want to take us into a fully fledged depression because they don’t want to hire someone who doesn’t already have a job. As Americans, we can’t do anything to reverse this trend? Boycott? Ask our politicians for help? Of course this practice isn’t banned because businesses have the right to hire anyone they choose. If this was because of race, we would call it racism, if it was for age it would be age discrimination. So what do you call it because people are unemployed?
If businesses continue to treat their fellow Americans with such disregard, we as a country will never get back to prosperity the way we knew. We will continue to decline as a world economic superpower. Eventually getting replaced by the likes of a country like China, whose standing in the world continues to increase while ours continues to decrease. I would hope businesses wake up and realize that in the long run, they are hurting themselves too by not hiring individuals who can be trained to do anything that you ask of them.
