A rickety boat a sailing went,
Found peace of mind in a sea hell bent,
Where none would venture this boat was sent,
Her name was Hope but hope was spent.
Hope float lonely without a sailor,
Much like cloth without a tailor,
Till one day Hope a shipwrecked fellow found,
He gave her the strength to turn around.
Now the good fellow did as a gentleman ought,
He sailed Hope home with a caring thought,
He patched her leaks and mended her sails,
He shined her decks and gave her new nails.
Throughly exhausted he finally called it a day,
In Hope's cabin he wearily lay,
Hope so accustomed to bitter defeat,
Never imagined she could feel so complete.
The night brought rain and freezing it got,
Hope's new friend an illness caught,
Stricken to bed he clung to hope and cried,
Weakened from battle he gave up the fight.
Hope woke the morning with a mournful shrill,
She longed for her friend with an aching will,
Now she was left floating lonely again on an ocean so black,
Bereft of her friend to guide her way back.
Heartbroken from loss Hope didn't see why it mattered,
Her poor sweet friend should have left her broken and tattered,
Then she remembered the dedication in how he labored so long,
And how it would've all been for nothing if she didn't stay strong.
Hope's dear friend showed her that even a rickety boat,
Could find one reason to stay afloat,
Love can find us as easily as leave,
But one true friend is someone everyone needs.
