Poetry: Depression

by Marie Garner

Created on: March 05, 2007   Last Updated: May 14, 2007

My soul longs to soar again with ecstasy
And eternally leave behind the agony
That consumes my earthly being

I yearn
To replace the sadness with gladness
And purge myself of the growing hollowness
To trade sorrow and suffering for contentment
So that life again becomes one of enjoyment
To swap dejection and desolation for exhilaration
In order to be utterly and wholly filled with elation
To replace the perpetual gloom and grief with glee
So that again I may absolutely feel free
To live the life I was meant to the fullest degree
And in doing so become blessedly completely me.

Melancholy plummets my spirit and saps my life
I am saturated with despair and suffer such strife
It consumes my earthly being.
