Remember as a child your first pet. It doesn't matter if it was a dog, cat, mouse or turtle you caught next to the creek. That pet was special, one to be remembered. But why, there are millions of pets in this world, what made that one so special. It was because it was loved by you. I remember running home to show my parents a kitten I had found. Although there were millions of kittens in the world, and thousands where I lived, in my mind this one was different. It was special, because I found it, I gave it a home, because I loved it.
Love has the ability to take a ordinary pet and make them special. We all probably have pets that we love right now. As I am writing this there are two dogs laying at my feet, which I love with all my heart. Now to the world they are just two dogs, but to me they are my two best friends. We should always remember when we run into animals during our day that they are loved by somebody, and if they aren't, they need to be. We should never be mean to them or treat them badly just as I would not want my two dogs treated badly.
People say love makes you do crazy things, I say love makes you "feel" crazy things. I can put into words the love I've had for pets in my life. From a little mouse I had as a child to a goat I had as an adult. They all have a special place in my heart. They all deserve to be remembered and loved.
People say that dogs are "man's best friend" and I believe that completely. But to me they are more than that. They make me laugh when I'm sad and they are always there for me when I just need someone to lay with me. They don't try to make me feel better, they don't ask me what's wrong, and they don't judge me for what I've done. They are just there. It's as if they know the silence helps more than the words. The way they look up at you, as if you are the only person in the world to them. We can't understand the language of dogs, but we can understand the language of their heart.
