Search engine optimization (SEO) refers to the free tactics used to improve websites rankings. There are two types of optimization: on-site optimization and off-site optimization. The former refers to the tactics you implement on your website. The latter refers to the tactics you implement outside of your website. Both types are tried-and-true traffic generation tactics. In order to increase traffic to your online articles, you need to implement on-page and off-page optimization.
There are things you need to do and things you must not do as far as both types are concerned. In this article, I am going to discuss some tips about the dos and don’ts of on-site and off-site optimization that will increase traffic to your online articles.
♦ On-site optimization
Dos
Keyword-rich Content
The first thing you need to care about is the content of your articles. You need to write keyword-rich articles. This means that you need to conduct keyword research to know what keyphrases people in your niche use. In other words, you need to find the keywords people use to conduct searches. The keywords you choose must drive traffic, be relevant to your niche market and have low competition.
The Title Tag
The second thing you need to do is to write the title tag. The title tag is the name of your web page. It informs the search engines about the topic of your page and the keywords you target. Needless to say, the title tag must be relevant to what the page is about. Also, it must contain your most important keywords.
Internal Links
The third paramount thing is internal links or Interlinking. It is about linking between your recent and old articles. This is ensures the durability of your content. By Interlinking, you always remind the search engines to drive traffic to your previous content.
Don’ts
Overusing Keywords
One of the most important things you need to avoid is using your keywords excessively. This is often referred to as having high Keyword Density, high Keyword Frequency or Keyword Stuffing. These unacceptable Black-Hat SEO tactics are used differently. For instance, writers may use too many synonyms, write the same keywords many times or target more than one keyword per page. You must avoid all of these things to generate traffic.
Keyword-less Anchor Text
The second thing you need to refrain from is having keyword-less anchor text.
