Recipes: Thanksgiving Day appetizers

by Angela Harris

Created on: September 20, 2010

As everyone starts showing up on Thanksgiving Day, you anxiously check the clock. It's still a couple of hours until the Thanksgiving bird will be done. Guests are starting to look as if they would eat the turkey raw.

This is why it's a good idea to include a few easy Thanksgiving Day appetizers on your menu. It will hold people over until the main event and prevent kids from becoming cranky. Here are some easy recipes for Thanksgiving Day appetizers that won't burden you even more in the kitchen. They are quick to make. Some can even be made ahead to save precious time and space in your oven and on the stove.

Spicy Buffalo Chicken Dip

If you're a fan of hot wings, you will enjoy this dip. It's so easy using canned chicken that you will still have time to make it on Thanksgiving Day. You can also make it early in the day in a slow cooker on high for 2 hours. This way, it stays hot and is ready when guests arrive. Since it's spicy, it's a nice appetizer for Thanksgiving, as it's a contrast against the traditional Thanksgiving menu.

You will need:
1 cup ranch dressing
1 10 ounce can of chicken, drained well (You can also use shredded rotisserie chicken or cooked and shredded chicken breasts)
3/4 cup hot sauce, or to taste
2 8 ounce packages softened cream cheese (I cheat even more and buy whipped cream cheese)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Tortilla chips, corn chips, assorted crackers, bread slices, celery - your choice

Mix the dressing, hot sauce, and cream cheese together. Stir in the chicken.

Spray a 9x9 baking dish with cooking spray. Add the mixture to the pan.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for fifteen minutes.

Remove from oven and add the shredded cheese. Return to the oven until the cheese melts.

Serve with your choice of dippers.

Deviled Eggs Recipe

Deviled eggs are the perfect Thanksgiving appetizer. They are cheap and can be made ahead of time, freeing you up on Thanksgiving Day. And there really is no easier appetizer recipe. Here's how to make deviled eggs:

Ingredients for 12 appetizers:
6 eggs
Miracle Whip salad dressing (this really is a secret ingredient- don't use mayonnaise!)
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
salt, to taste
paprika

Boil the eggs until they are hard boiled. Put them in cold water until they are cool enough to peel. After you have peeled the boiled eggs, slice each egg lengthwise.

Remove the yolks, being careful not to tear the cooked whites. Put all of the yolks together in a small bowl. Use a fork to mash the yolks. Add enough Miracle Whip to
