Welcome, Dear Readers, and fellow Video Game Addicts. Come on in, grab your refreshment
of choice, and have a seat. Our subject this evening, is "How We Became Addicted ". I see alot of
hands being raised this evening, and each of you will have all the time you need, to tell your own
story tonight, but since this meeting is being held here, in my personal space, I believe I will start
by saying ...........
My name is Teri and I am a Video Game Addict.
I believe my obsession started in 1980. My parents bought my sister and I, an Atari 2600 for
Christmas that year. I remember it like it was yesterday! I couldn't believe it! I was hooked!
There was "Pitfall Harry" (with his "queer jumps" as Dear 'ole Dad called it.) There was the stick
man in "Berzerk", "Donkey Kong", "Asteroids", "Frogger", "Polaris", "Coconuts", " Wizards
and Warriors", "Phoenix", and "Baseball", just to name a few. I simply could not believe the
graphics. I could not honestly comprehend, how "they" could make these video games look
so "realistic"! I was the joy stick Champion! YES! Dad would get home from work somewhere
around 11:30 p.m., and I would be waiting for him. Dad and I would play the Atari 2600! Usually,
the Baseball game, and I can still hear Dad saying, (and I quote), "Push, Push, PUSH, and
NOTHING happens"! (Poor ole Dad, couldn't quite get the hang of the joy stick) Then Dad
would throw the contoler on the floor and QUIT on me! It was a LONG time before I could get my
Dad to play the Atari with me again.
Fast Forward ...........
Then, out of the blue! To my dismay, my sister started dating a guy. An Outsider. An
INFIDEL!
HE.
He brought into our lives,
An "Intellivision". No more joy stick! Weird! The controller looked like a remote control, but
yet it had the weird little circle thing-a-ma-jig at the bottom of it. Alot of the same games as my beloved
Atari, but I had to re-learn how to make it do what I wanted it to do. Yet, look at
