There are no laws. This is a fact. There is only fear of repercussions.
The only reason that people usually don't run red lights is because they don't want to get a ticket. The only reason that people usually don't rob liquor stores is because they don't want to go to prison. The only reason that people usually don't kill each other is because in many states it is a capital crime and will get you a one way ticket to a room with a less-than-pleasant aroma.
However, these crimes still continue because many people do not fear the consequences of their actions. The worst of these is the crime of murder. Murder, simply put, is the act of one person knowingly and willingly taking the life of another. They feel that they have the right to cut the other person's existence short. To remove any and all potential this person might have. Forever.
Now, in many states there is an ultimate punishment: The Death Penalty. But, the death penalty is proving to be less and less of a deterrent because of the way it is handled. Long trials, endless appeals, constant worrying about the welfare of these killers, and of course, the fear of “cruel and unusual punishment”.
Well, it's time to streamline this process:
Step One:
Shorten the appeals process. Forensic technology has never been better and it's constantly improving. DNA evidence helps to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt many murders. Surveillance technology is to the point where people can be recognized from many yards away. Huge rewards even work great for bringing witnesses out of hiding to help put the finger on these killers.
Step Two:
Stop making the killers out to be victims. So, they grew up in a bad neighborhood? Big deal. Lots of people grow up in those neighborhoods and get real jobs to support their families, many go on to college, and become true successes. Do these people get any news coverage? Of course not. Now, the “bad seeds” that went on killing sprees gunning down innocents are actually elevated to celebrity status as people that were somehow thrust into a life of crime because of their “situations”. These people are not victims. The people they murdered were victims.
Step Three:
This is the point of this whole article. Change the execution process. No more comfortable chairs for them to sit in while some random stranger pulls a switch that electrocutes them. No more cushy hospital beds where someone actually cleans the injection point with an antiseptic swab (Seriously!
