A site is considered valuable when it starts hitting under 100,000 in ranking. One of the fastest way to get there is to link to and from sites that are higher in rank than yours. This is often called ‘backlinking’. Furthermore, the determination through which sites are reputable can be found through one source - Alexa.
Alexa lets users compare two sites and then discloses 3 things - the number of indexed pages on the site, the backlinks and page rank. Out of these 3 factors, the backlinks is where the heart of the traffic is build. However, it’s the page rank here that makes a site reputable. So before we get into the art of backlinking, let’s go over the tools you need to install on your web browser and then the practice of determining which sites to build links with to finally building it.
Tools To Start
It is suggested that website owners install Mozilla Firefox if they haven’t already done so. The benefit here is most of the tools for search engine optimization (SEO) support this browsing environment. Therefore, every little bit helps as you get deeper into analyzing websites you’ll be building links with.
Next, the first place you want to start at is on Alexa where there is a free toolbar you can install. This keeps your site in the pool of sites to be ranked. Furthermore, you can see the changes daily without going to Alexa’s main site. This way, you can determine if your link building efforts are progressing.
Another suggested tool combined with Alexa’s is the WebRank Toolbar. This one shows more so you can see clearly how many backlinks, indexed pages and the page rank of the site is directly on the browser. Finally, the last tool, SearchStatus, can reveal something called ‘dofollow’ links to help you see if a site is worth building links with.
Now that we’ve covered the tools you need. Let’s get into the meat of the process and see how the art of building links is done. Normally, the older the website is, the better the ranking. So with persistence, building backlinks through reputable sites is a matter of daily analysis and branding.
Are They Dofollow?
With the tools installed, now it’s time to find sites to follow and build your relationships with. As this is where branding comes in. Not only that but through the offer of ‘dofollow’, which is a term that means giving out link juice, users can be at ease in knowing that their link building efforts are not null.
