Doom's Day date 2012

by Roman Del Bosque

Created on: September 16, 2010

This whole Mayan Calendar thing is scaring some people all around the world.  It's even got some members of my family scared as well.  But people across history have beem making similar predictions over the centuries.  It's as if we have some sort of dark attraction to catastrophic events.  Not good.  Because to give attention to such things may actually cause them to come about.  These are known as self-fulling prophecies, which gain momentum and materialize in the following way.

First, however, let us understand that the two most powerful emotions in our lives are love and fear.  Between these two, there are a variety of other powerful emotions such as joy, hate, anger, jealousy and many others.  But for purposes of this article, we will focus on only these two emotions, which are responsible for most, if not all, of the events that unfold in our lives, either individually or collectively as a species during the course of our existence.

Secondly, let us also understand that we as human beings cannot experience feelings and emotions unless we first think about something.  For instance, if we are working on something and suddenly we think of someone we care very much about, only then do we experience the emotion of love - the love that we feel for that person.  The same goes for, let's us say, someone that we dislike or may even hate.  Again, we must think about that person first before we can experience the emotion of dislike or hate.  This is the way our lives work: we first experience the thought which is then followed by the corresponding emotion.  This process is as true as mathematics.

And it appears that people of old knew this so well they even wrote about it.  For instance, in the Bible the following warning is given:

"Above all else guard your thoughts; [for] your life is shaped by them."  Proverbs 4:23

Notice it says "above all else guard your thoughts."  The author warns us to be very careful of how and what we think about, because it is our thinking, both individually and collectivley, which determines what circumstances we meet with in life.  In other words, it is our thinking which directly shapes our lives collectively and individually.
