Dealing with the past

Dealing with the past is something many of us can't do by ourselves. We try to forget the past, but it never goes away. This is why it is so important to get help if you are having trouble dealing with your past. Whether we like it or not certain things can trigger those memories. Fortunately, we don't seem to have problems dealing with the good memories of our past it is usually the bad ones.

Our past is always there even when we are not thinking about it. It is in our subconscious. The subconscious is a part of your brain that files everything away so when we need information it is there. But at certain times our past comes back and haunts us. Many things can cause this. Watching a movie, seeing an accident, ready an article or maybe experiencing something you have gone through before. If your past is effecting your life in a bad way you should seek help.

There is plenty of help out there for those who want it. Psychiatrists, counselors, group therapy and medication. Some people even use hypnosis because they don't remember the past because it was so traumatic. This doesn't work for everyone but it may help you to remember the experience that has caused you so much pain.

All these methods of help have one thing in common and that is dealing with it. You also need to talk about your past, because it helps release those emotions you have inside. Keeping it all inside can make things worse. Crying and screaming can release tension. You don't want to let it build up, because this could drive you crazy.

Talking to a counselor or therapist can help you deal with your past. They understand what you are going through and can give you professional advice on how to deal with it.  Remember you are not alone. There are people out there who care. This is why some people like group therapy because there are others that are going through the same thing. These people are caring and compassionate because they are going thorough the same thing you are.

I know we can't forget the past but we shouldn't  let it control our lives.  Don't ever let the past repeat itself. Your future is not set in stone and can be changed. Help yourself by learning what your past has done to you. Pray for strength and guidance. Learn to forgive and it will may make you feel better. It worked for me. My past has haunted me for years and I am still dealing with it. But since I learned to forgive, the past seems less painful now.
