The Dead Eye aside, most everything that transpires in Red Dead Revolver falls firmly in the realm of the believable. These characters and their lives in New Austin, Mexico and West Elizabeth are more or less grounded in the real world - that is, except for one man.
After completing several of the main storyline missions, wander along the river border separating New Austin with Mexico, in the region of Hennigan's Stead. Along this long road you'll notice a man in a top hat looking out over the river, and he'll call you over without turning around. Approach and he'll greet John Marston in a rather curious way - and have some rather intimate details of Marston's life flowing out of his lips.
He offers no explanation as to who he is or how he knows Marston, but he does give the bounty hunter something to do. Not far from here, in Thieves' Landing, a married man is about to cheat on his wife with a prostitute. The strange man in the top hat tells Marston to go and offer the man advice.. whatever that advice may be.
Head to Thieves' Landing. You'll find the man outside the saloon, ready to proposition a lady and looking rather lecherous. You can either walk up and chastise his actions or encourage them by giving him some money, resulting in an honor rise or drop. You'll then get a notification that the mission isn't over, though the man in the top hat is long gone.
You'll find him again shortly after you enter Mexico. Ride south of Casa Madrugada and you'll see him on a gentle slope overlooking the road, sitting in a camp with a donkey. Approach him and he'll talk about Marston's past actions, noting that he hopes his son grows up like the cowboy. More mysterious words, and he offers another morality quest: there's a nun nearby collecting donations. Do with her as you see fit.
Leave the man behind (he reassures you that you'll see him again) and ride to the spot indicated on the map. The nun will indeed be collecting donations. You can either give her some money after listening to her sermonize a bit, or you can rob her blind and ride off.
Either way, you won't see the man in the top hat again until you arrive in West Elizabeth. He'll be standing in Beecher's Hope, atop a small hill overlooking the farms, and when Marston approaches they'll chat a bit more. The main will claim himself an accountant of sorts, but he won't explain himself at all, nor how he knows so much about Marston - and that, understandably, angers your protagonist. When Marston tries to shoot the man, however, the bullets go right through, and he walks off unharmed... and you never see him again. Spooky.
