Poetry: Look away

by Samantha Elliott

Created on: September 15, 2010

With rapid pulse and heaving chest,

her moist eyes disbelieve

the inexplicable vision before her.

Stamped out is the joyous life

so smoothly spread out in her

previous reality.

Panic and despair squeeze out

all that was warm, and

all that was light.

A conscious decision is made

to imagine love lost

as it once was.

She looks away, and in her mind

sees him as he should be

if only for a moment.
