With rapid pulse and heaving chest,
her moist eyes disbelieve
the inexplicable vision before her.
Stamped out is the joyous life
so smoothly spread out in her
previous reality.
Panic and despair squeeze out
all that was warm, and
all that was light.
A conscious decision is made
to imagine love lost
as it once was.
She looks away, and in her mind
sees him as he should be
if only for a moment.
