Poetry: Religion

Some folks think that

Tiny gods are the best.

Ones you can control and boss around.

…Red lipstick eternally creates surface beauty on otherwise bitter pale lips.

…Coffee is forever gifted with the legendary power of mental stimulation.

Tiny gods are the easiest.

…None of those unreasonable demands.

Don’t drink!

Don’t swear!

Don’t covet your neighbor’s wife!

Tiny gods don’t mess with your life!

…A million dollars does what you make it do.

It won’t talk back or knock you off track with too many big questions for you.

Tiny gods you can own…. Other folks will see you with your red corvette and moan!

They’ll ask ... “What gods do you follow?”

Who knows what that answer will be.. mammon, baal.. ?

As for me and my family we will worship the Lord.

The Lord who created it all and gently redirects us towards the sometimes difficult truth.

The Lord who became Abraham's lamb, so that we who are sinners might be be redeemed.
