SEO or search engine optimization is the process of increasing web traffic by getting high rankings on the search engines.  A solid SEO knowledge is a must in online marketing.  It is all-but impossible for a website to succeed without a solid SEO background.  Therefore, it is important for beginners to learn about it before entering into the world of e-marketing.  In this article, I am going to discuss 7 valuable SEO tips for beginners.

Tip #1: Proper keyword research

Keyword research is the practice of identifying search terms that people use to conduct searches online.  Beginners usually make the mistake of relying on one keyword research tool, which is Google Keyword Tool.  It is true that the tool is free and valuable, but beginners must not rely solely on it.  There are other tools like:

Keyword Discovery

WordTracker

Market Samurai

WordStream

Google Keyword Tool does not check the commerciality of keywords, which is a very important element.  Websites that sell products online must use commercial keywords not non-commercial ones.  If you rely on one free tool, you may not choose effective SEO keywords.  It is important to take advantage of all tools you can find to properly conduct keyword research.

Tip #2: Title Tags

The title tag is the title of a web page.  It always appears on the top of your browser.  The tag tells the search engines what the page is about.  The title tag may seem invaluable, but the truth is quite otherwise.  It is extremely important to name your pages.  The search engine spiders know the topic of a certain page based on its title.  Without a title, how can they recognize the topic of the page?

Tip #3: Meta Tags

The title tag tells the search engine what the page is about and the Meta tag gives more details about the page.  The Meta tag is the description that appears under links on the search results.

There are two types of Meta tags: Description Meta Tag and Keyword Meta Tag.  The former is the description of a web page in the form of a small paragraph.  The latter is the description of a web page in the form of a list of keywords.  The
