On August 10, 2009, Brooks & Dunn, the group behind great hits like “Hard Working Man”, “Only in America”, and “Boot Scootin' Boogie”, made a shocking website statement of plans to call it quits after the Last Rodeo Tour in 2010.
Here’s the statement from the group’s official website:
“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it's time to call it a day. This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed .... We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time. We will release our "#1's and Then Some" on September 8th and come see you all one more time in 2010, with The Last Rodeo Tour”
The Last Rodeo Tour was performed at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, September 2, 2010.
The duo, adjudged as one of country’s music most successful group, gave no reason for their separation. Fans all over the America and the world have unsuccessfully tried to come up with an actual reason for this, but it seems it’s just as the website statement clearly informs, “it’s just time”.
Brooks and Dunn was a country music group of two, Leon Eric "Kix" Brooks III and Ronnie Gene Dunn. Signed into the Arista Records label, their debut album, ‘Brand New Man’, was released in 1991. The album was a huge success, peaking at number three in the charts, with four of the album’s single hitting number one spot. The album’s success took the duo to the next level of their musical career, especially with the reception enjoyed by “Boot Scootin' Boogie”, a song that would later become one of the duo’s all time greatest.
While there are rumors here and there of what would happen next, considering how other successful groups have split up and later reunited, becoming even stronger, Last Rodeo Tour may indeed be the last Brooks and Dunn the country music village will ever see again.
Many may never forget the great patriotic song, “Only in America”, that was used in the campaigns of both George Bush and Barack Obama. While for some, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”, a class of its own, may be the song they will always keep in their collections to remember the award-winning group, Brooks and Dunn.
For a group with 10 studio albums, 20 chart-topping singles, two Grammy Awards and several other awards, a lack of success may never been seen as the cause for its shocking unexpected split up. Fans may just have to keep believing in the comfort of these few words from their website statement, “it’s just time”.
