Anna was sad. Her best friend who had lived next door to her for as long as she could remember was moving far away.
"Don't be sad Anna." her mother said wiping Anna's tears. "You'll always be friends no matter how far away you might be."
"What if we get someone mean for a next door neighbor?" Anna asked. "What if a boy moves in?"
"I'm sure someone nice will move in, even if they do have a boy." Anna's mom said and kissed Anna's cheek.
Anna and her friend Diane talked on the phone a lot. They missed each other. When she wasn't talking to Diane, Anna watched the house next door. One day she noticed some people moving in. She watched for a while wondering if they had any kids she could play with. Then her mom told her it wasn't polite to watch them.
"How will I know if they have a girl for me to play with?" Anna asked.
"Later on we will go over together and introduce ourselves." Anna's mom replied.
It seemed like Anna had to wait forever, but finally her mom said the time had come for them to meet the new neighbors. Her mom took a plate of fresh veggies with them for the new neighbors.
When Anna and her mom knocked on the door, a pretty lady answered. She thanked Anna's mom for the yummy vegetables and asked them to come inside.
"I'd like you to meet my daughter. She's a little shy but I hope you will like her." the lady spoke to Anna.
She called to her little girl who was just Anna's age. "Michelle, there's someone I want you to meet."
A pretty, brown haired girl with glasses came into the room. She smiled shyly at them. She seemed different then Anna's friend Diane was. Diane was really outgoing and had never been shy in her life. Still, Anna wanted to be friends with Michelle.
"Hi.' she said. "My name's Anna. Do you like dolls?"
"Yes." Michelle said shyly.
"Good. Lets go play." Anna said.
"My dolls are packed away right now." Michelle said quietly.
"Then lets go to my house and play. I'll share my dolls with you." Anna offered.
"Okay." said Michelle.
Michelle and Anna soon became the best of friends. Diane was still Anna's best friend, but Michelle was a good friend too.
"I'm so glad Anna and Michelle are friends." said Michelle's mom. "Michelle was so shy before, but now she's learning to make more friends."
"They are good for each other." Anna's mom said." I'm glad we're friends too."
"So am I." Michelle's mom smiled. "It's always nice to have friends.
No matter how far away you may be, real friends stay friends forever.
