A woman has every right to choose for her body UNTIL she gets pregnant. At that point, it is the baby's right to choose, not hers. Yes, I have heard all the arguments for the past thirty-seven years. I know there was a 1973 case called Roe v. Wade. I know the strong positions taken on each side and I know this debate will never be resolved in any one's lifetime.
I know.
This is an argument on who is more important...the woman or the fetus/child.
So, why am I bothering to write about this unresolved and ongoing argument?
For several reasons...
The arguments.
First, I do not buy the argument that the rape of a girl of any age automatically justifies abortion. The best defense against this point of view is that thousands of babies are born every month to secure, mature, financially stable mothers who want a child and yet, hundreds of those babies are abused or not treated with the love they deserve even under the most perfect of circumstances. So, why are we so concerned HOW a baby gets their life on earth? If a girl is raped by a motorcycle gang, that does not mean she has to raise the child. That is why society created adoption agencies. It is not how a baby arrives on earth, it is how it is loved on earth.
None of us can predict what kind of adult a baby will become when they are born much less know how they will behave if they are a product of rape.
A second argument for pro-choice is that many women will lose their ability to have a career or suffer the consequences of having to take care of a child when they really never wanted to get pregnant in the first place. Gee, could you be a little more selfish here, girl? No one forced you to go to bed with the guy. No one said you were not going to get pregnant when neither or one of you did not use any protection. If you have sex, it is always a possibility you will get pregnant. You did and you are. Now, be a responsible human being and stop using abortion as just another form of birth control. It is not birth control except in your universe. Birth control is DURING sex, not after it. You have a baby coming. It is your child.
YOUR child.
Thirdly, there is a debate about first trimester abortions being more legitimate than third trimester abortions. This is a clever way of making abortion seem less murderous. Remember, a woman who wants an abortion has to salve her conscience here. So, if someone presents the argument that a baby is not REALLY a baby until at least three months into life,
