Who is God?

by Roman Del Bosque

Created on: September 13, 2010

God is the spirit, the energy, the power that created and continues to create all things in the universe.  Nothing exists that was not created by God.  And nothing will exist in the future that will not be created by God.  All things in the universe begin with God.  And all things in the universe also end with God. Some dispute this assertion.  Others accept it.  In the end, however, this changes nothing about how God carries out Its creative activity in our world and in the universe at large.

God is the creative force taking on the shape of all things.  The divine intelligence, the spark, from which all things spring.  Nothing can exist without the knowledge of this eternal and infinite Spirit.  And nothing can have life without Its energy.

God is the energy spread out throughout the entire universe.  From one end to another.  From one corner to another does this Spirit inhabit every inch in the universe.  Nothing escapes Its awareness.  Nothing can go unnoticed by this divine spirit.  And nothing can be hidden from it.  For it knows all and sees all.

God is the life giving spark giving life to every human being alive today.  The same spark that gave life to those who came before us.  And the same spark that will continue to breathe life into the lives of those that will come after us.

God is everything and everything is God.  The same divine spark that gives life to all things is even now in every human being, in every blade of grass, in every pebble of sand, and in every corner of the universe.  God is in the quantum field that created and continues to create all things.  Where God is not there is no life.

God is the Great Mystery, that which cannot be explained with words or human concepts.  Yet, when we turn within, when we search for the truth, we find it and it sets us free.  And it brings us understanding - a better understanding of God, a better understanding of the laws that govern the universe, and a better understanding of our selves.

God does not hide truths from us.  It is we who do not search for the truth with conviction, with purpose, that keeps the truth at bay of our understanding.  Seek and you shall find.  Ask and you shall receive.  Knock and the door shall be opened.  Until we truly seek, we shall not find.  Until we truly ask, we shall not receive.  And until we knock, the door shall not be opened to us.

Rather than ask "Who is God?"  Let us instead ask "What is God?" For the essence of God is spirit in form and not human.

God is our creator.  God is our father.  God is the reason for everything that is and that exists in the universe.  And we owe everything to It from beginning to end.  God begins to lose Its mysterious quality when we begin to understand Its essence.  "Seek and you shall find," we are told.  "Ask and you shall receive," we are reminded.  "Knock and the door shall be opened," we are encouraged.

God has done Its part to reveal Its truth to us.  But it is up to us to dare to ask, to dare to seek, and to dare to knock on God's door for the answers we seek in our lives.

The question is, Are we daring enough to do this?  The divine challenge is there.  But we need to act. When and if we do perhaps then will we finally be able to fully answer the question, "What is God?"
