Is homework necessary?

Yes. For sure homework is necessary through education for several reasons and if there is no homework, for sure there is no schooling. Below are the reasons why homework should be given to students in every single lesson:

1. It's the only proof that the learner opened the book at home. Through homework, teachers would know who opened the book and studied and who didn't.

2. When a teacher corrects the homework the next day with the students, it helps students revise what's been taught during the previous day. It's like a revision or refreshment.

3. It also helps the students to connect the previously taught lessons with recent lessons. Especially when the units or the chapters are connected to each other and one unit builds up to other coming units. In this case, students can see the whole picture of a certain lesson that is divided into single units.

4. Helps students to apply (procedural knowledge) what they've learned (declarative knowledge).

Declarative Knowledge is knowledge about something.

Procedural knowledge is knowledge of how to do something.

5. Helps the students to self-evaluate themselves. Through homework, they can tell whether they understood specific lessons, and they can also know their level in certain subjects. And that's going to help them to know which subjects they should focus on, what subjects they need to work hard on.

6. Homework helps the students to know what their weakness and strengths points are.

7. Helps the teachers to evaluate their students (whether they understood the lesson or not).

8. Helps the teachers to evaluate their teaching methodologies; i. e. whether their lesson was completely understood or needs improvements, whether the teaching method used is perfect for these students, or another teaching method must be used instead.

9. Through it, students will find out whether they have any questions regarding specific points. It stimulates the thoughts and the brain.

10. It can be used as filler if you're done with your lesson earlier than expected. Time management is important and every teacher should dedicate 75% of their class time to the lesson and leave 25% unplanned. This 25% is for the students in case they wanted to discuss something with the teacher or when they have questions about that day's lesson or any other previous lesson. However, when students have nothing to say at the end of the lesson, then you can use the 25% time to do and correct previous home works you gave to your students.
