Becoming a parent requires you spending your time and money to take care of your children and run a healthy household.  Many mothers dread going back to work once their children are born, and with good reason.  The bond that develops between infants and their mothers is very important to a child’s development and some children and parents are miserable when they are separated from each other.  Some women are able to balance working outside of the home while raising their children but not all women are interested in working outside of their homes once their children are born.  Regardless, the bills still need to be paid and though some women are happy to devote all of their time to motherhood, other women are anxious to utilize their talents and skills and earn money on their own terms.  Thankfully there are many fun and lucrative options for stay at home moms who want to earn a living. 

Tutoring is a great way to earn extra income from the comfort of your home.  If you used to work for a bank and have a talent for numbers, advertise around your neighborhood that you are willing to tutor students having difficulty with their mathematics studies.  Perhaps you have a gift for languages and can speak more than one quite fluently.  Offering foreign language tutoring holds great appeal, especially in diverse communities in North America.  Young North American adults are being offered jobs in Asia to teach English to Asian school students.  If you speak an Asian language and live in North America you would definitely generate a lot of interest if you offer Asian language instruction to young teachers hoping to go overseas and teach.  Tutoring allows you to set your own rates and your own working hours in your home so you can spend as much time with your family as possible.  You can even schedule your tutoring appointments while your children are napping!  If you have a swimming pool at home and have experience teaching swimming you can offer private swimming lessons at your home. 

Catering is a wonderful way to earn some extra cash from home.  Ask your friends to help spread the word about your cooking abilities and pass out business cards for you.  Do your part to market your business by offering to provide baked treats for a modest fee at parties your friends throw so that others will get a chance to “sample” your work and possibly hire you.
