Poetry: Feminine wisdom

by Barry Williams

Created on: September 12, 2010

Adam said leave alone the tree we've been shown

It bears a fruit that is not to be tasted

But Eve after a while when curiosity had grown

Said to Adam, "It can't hurt If I take a bite. It's a shame to see fruit wasted."

Elizabeth the first had a cousin, Mary queen of Scots

Poor Mary was the subject of evil plots

Elizabeth thought Mary would be better off dead

And so poor Mary lost her head

Joan of Arc heard voices and against the English she battled

And was tried by English whose faith she rattled

She would not recant and insisted on wearing men's clothing

And was burned at the stake to end their loathing

Eva said to Adolph, "Why do you tarry?"

"Don't you think it's time we should marry?"

But Hitler said, "Let's wait until we win the war."

Eva insisted. Perhaps she knew the score

Let's forget history because it's really mother who knows best

Her wisdom knows no bounds. She towers on high, above all the rest

You may think you are clever  but at the end of the day

You'll find it so much easier if you let her have her way
