Palestinians are thought to have a right to engage in it but Al Qaeda are condemned. It should be the same for both. Sept. 11 was a major wake-up call. Since Sept. 11, the U.S. has been tough on terrorism. and it was no coincidence that the IRA and ETA began to move to disarmament. Palestinian terrorism has to be stopped by the European community but because the European community hasn't done that, Israel is forced into a position where it has to retaliate. Israel always overreacts. Every democracy overreacts to terrorism. That's part of the ploy of terrorism.
After the Camp David accords failed, the Palestinians were looked at negatively by the European community for turning down the deal. They soon decided to play the terrorist card again. Israel overreacted and the European community turned to the Palestinans so they were able to change the dynamic very quickly by using the tactic of terrorism. Had they accepted the Camp David accords, they would have used terrorism effectively to get themselves a state. The terrorism resulted in a very tough regime being installed in Israel with Ariel Sharon after following his illness, Ehud Olmert. The Palestinian state has to be created as a reward for the end of terrorism. The ending of terrorism should be rewarded not terrorism.
There are Palestinians who will never accept the existence of Israel, just as there are Israelis who will never accept the existence of Palestine, and they will try to do whatever they can to bring about its destruction. It is true to say that the new Palestinian state might still desire to destroy Israel. However, given its current circumstances and meagre resources, any Palestinian state will be stunted from birth so it would have to receive massive investment, all dependent on continued adherence to peace. The other Arab states, while not necessarily giving up on the dream of removing Israel from the map, are too busy trying to deal with the threats to their own stability coming from Islamic fundamentalist groups in their own countries.
There are people turning away from Israel who struggle to find a way to support a state whose existence seems necessary. However, If Israel were to give back all of the land captured in 1967 and if after that, terrorism gets worse, what would the world community expect Israel to do at that point?
