Hatred and Terrorism
Jews should have the right to live anywhere in the West Bank and in Gaza, as they should anywhere in the world. However, in the interest of peace, it is right that the Jews who live in these settlements should be relocated either within the Green Line or within the area that is likely to become the final borders of Israel. The world should recognize that this is in the nature of a compromise and that the Jewish settlers are being asked to surrender their legal rights in the interests of peace.
The one state solution is a ruse. It is designed by Palestine to destroy the Jewish state of Israel and to substitute another Islamic Arab state and designed by Israel to destroy Palestine. Those who propose a single state solution would never do it in regard to the former Yugoslavia, or other previously united states which have now been divided on ethnic or religious grounds.
When the Palestinian leadership wants a Palestinian state more than it wants to see the destruction of Israel, there will finally be a two-state solution. The ultimate solution is not as much in dispute these days as is the means for getting there. The time has come for compromise. It will require that both sides give up rights. This will require the elevation of pragmatism over ideology. It will require that each side stop trading public insults and recognizes and acknowledges the pain and the suffering of the other. A resolution must be supported that gives dignity, gives economic viability and gives political freedom and freedom of movement to the Palestinian people but advocators of Palestinian right of return are misleading Palestinians into believing that there is yet a demographic weapon that can destroy Israel. Jerusalem should be divided essentially along demographic lines with the Palestinians controlling the Palestinian population and Israel controlling the Jewish population
If Yasser Arafat, the President of the Palestinians until 2004, had accepted the Camp David Accords, there might have been a Palestinian state. Arafat's decision to turn down the Clinton-Barak plan for Palestinian statehood caused crime and many deaths that should never have happened and also caused the election of Ariel Sharon in Israel over Barak. The Palestinian leadership has never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity, but it is not too late for peace now.
