Views on abortion

Abortion is a contentious issue in modern society. It is a matter that polarises opinion. Those who support it will do so vehemently. Those who oppose it do so equally emotively. My view is that it is wrong in all cases, except those of rape, incestuous or otherwise. No one should have to live with that burden.
The reason for my view is that, the way I see it, there are enough ways to avoid pregnancy in the first place, and abortion is simply seen as a safety net, a get out clause, it is seen as an excuse not to take precautions.
Abortion is fundamentally murder, and murder is frowned upon across the very vast majority of the globe. Yet we seem to have the idea, especially in the "civilised" Western world, that because something is not yet tangible, not yet breathing, it doesn't have the same rights as everyone else.
The reason that I don't see abortion as acceptable in any case other than that of rape is simple. However tragic a person's circumstance, whether the birth of the child leads to the death of the mother, the child or both, whether the child is severely deformed, mentally or physically, every being should be allowed an opportunity to make a go of life.
