Comfort Foods
The siren call
of the ice cream bowl
Vanilla mountains
covered with cherry juice
smothered in chocolate sauce
One favored flavor
among many chosen
chosen by all
hated by none
A sweet friend
who loves like a brother
A welcome guest
At day's end.

Is it fat? Or is it ham?
Squashed into a squarish can,
a metaphor for all I am.

I love a chocolate candy bar
but, find it doesn't go as far
as candy layered in pretty boxes
with maps drawn on the lid
Potatoes and gravy
Are great when you can be lazy
Chocolate and candy
Can make you feel dandy
I hate sitting here staring
At
Chocolate is my comfort food,
it gets me through the night.
I carefully open the wrapper,
savoring each and every bite.
