If your mom insists she does not want you spending your hard-earned money on her, and furthermore, she has all the material things she needs or wants, then you may have to get creative in thinking of a way to treat your mom on her birthday.
The best gifts come from the heart. If you can come up with a way to convey to your mom all the love and respect you hold for her in your heart, that might be the perfect gift, far more pleasing than any material item you could purchase.
Suggested gifts for the mom who has everything, or doesn’t want anything:
* Time
Time is the most precious commodity. Dedicate the entire day to your mom. Whether you spend the time together out and about, or simply sitting at home together enjoying tea and conversation, the gift of time spent with you could be the very best present of all, and might create a lasting cherished memory in your mom’s heart and mind.
* An original creation
Write a love letter or poem to your mom. Reiterate your affection and respect, including some favorite memories the two of you have shared, or recounting some of your fondest memories from your childhood. One thing a mother never tires of is evidence that she is loved and cherished by her beloved child.
* Pictures
A framed picture of the two of you together is a gift your mom will cherish and proudly display. This will be the gift that keeps on giving, for each time your mom looks at the picture, her heart will be overflow with loving feelings. If you don’t have a picture of the two of you worthy to frame, making an appointment with a professional photographer and having one taken on her birthday would be a perfect gift.
* A birthday outing
You mom might not want anything material, but she might certainly enjoy celebrating her birthday by having lunch or dinner at an upscale restaurant, attending a theater production or some other event. The two of you could even enjoy a day at a beauty spa together getting all gussied up before going out on your birthday “date.”
* An interview with mom
A unique and priceless gift for your mom would be for you to “interview” her. Sit down with your mom and ask her questions about her life, her hopes, dreams, aspirations and goals. Listening is one of the best gifts anyone can receive. Interviewing your mom in this manner, making it all about her, might be a gift for both of you, increasing your closeness to one another and allowing you to have a peek into the real person your mom is, when she is not being “just mom.”
Any one of the gifts suggested above would delight the heart of most moms. Singing “Happy Birthday” as your mom blows out the candles on her birthday cake, you can bask in the glow of awareness that you made at least one of your mom’s potential birthday wishes come true - a non-material gift presented with love.
