Poetry: Grandchildren

by Alicia Sloley

Created on: September 10, 2010

Your mum came to me and told me one day

She was expecting you and at first I did not know what to say

Your mum was young and just about to start a career

She was so young and the whole idea of her having a baby filled me with fear

I thought I had her best interest at heart and that it was not the right time

For her to start a family and thought she would regret it some time down the line

But just how wrong could I have been

For when you were born you were the most perfect little girl I have ever seen

Your beauty goes beyond what words could ever say

You are so perfect in everyway

Your smile brightens up even my darkest day

Your eyes shine and melt my heart in everyway

The way you cup your hands around the face of whomever you meet

The way you jump up and down on your little feet

You truly are a little angel sent down from up above

You melt everyone’s heart with your love

It will be interesting to watch you grow and see

The strong beautiful woman you will turn out to be

I cannot say how sorry I am for my first thoughts regarding your birth

I cannot imagine a day without you on this earth.
