Guide to the different search engines

When it comes to searching for something on the Internet, the name Google comes first to the minds of most people. However, the most famous website in the world is not the only one that provides search facilities to everyone. The two other major websites that provides similar services are Bing and Yahoo. Here is a guide to the different search engines mentioned.

Google

Google as the most popular search engine has the simplest interface and presentation for its home page. There is only a rectangular box for you to enter your search string or keywords and two buttons below the box. One button entitled "Google Search" is the most commonly used button. The other button entitled "I'M Feeling Lucky" is not so popular. You may be wondering why in the world the button is there in the first place. Clicking on this button will cause a web page instead of search results to appear. The web page is actually the web page that appears on the top of the search results of what you are searching for.  Besides the box where you can type in your search string or keywords with the two buttons, there are links to other pages. The links are arranged in such a manner that the page does not look overcrowded. The links include a link to a page where you can look for images, a link to a page where you can look for videos, and a link to a page where you can look for maps.

How results of a web search are presented on Google

On Google, the search results consists of a list of websites and other documents, each having a link with the title of the website as its title, a description of the website, and web the address of the website. On the left the results  are options you can select to filter your search.The options include news, images, books, videos, and blogs.

This is how Google determines which website should appear first in a search results. Google uses a tool or algorithm known as Pagerank to determine in what order a website or anything that you can find on the Internet should appear in the results of a search. The website or whatever document that appears on the Internet with the highest page ranking will be listed on the top of the search results. Google decides the ranking of a website or any other Internet document by looking at the number of links it has coming to it,  its content, and the number of votes it receives from the people.
