We all know that with winter around the corner that some of us are bound to end up with a huge energy bill. It also doesn't help that many holidays take place during the winter months and that energy costs can ruin all the family fun time since money tends to be spent on the energy bill rather than family gifts. Here are some ways to save energy during the winter without having to go broke in the process.

1.) Fix up the windows.

The best way to save energy in the winter would be to take the time to fix up the windows. If you need to replace the windows then do so and then take the time to place some plastic over the windows. It never hurts to add another layer of plastic or you can purchase some thick curtains to help keep the cold winter air out of the home. Also it helps to keep the curtains closed at all times to avoid any drafts.

2.) Limit cracks when it comes to the front door.

Another reason why the home gets cold during the winter would be the cracks around the front door that might need to be fixed. If you rather not deal with fixing cracks then it would be best to go out and purchase a new door that is suited for the winter weather. Also make sure that no winter air drafts can come through any other part of the door.

3.) Bring out the hot chocolate.

To help keep you warm without having to worry about saving energy it would be wise to stock up on hot chocolate. The reason for this is because the warmth of the hot chocolate will help warm up your body and best of all there's marshmallows. Also it helps to eat other warm foods or liquids to help beat the winter blues.

4.) Avoid turning on lights.

During the winter time people tend to use more lights in their home which isn't needed. However, what is needed is a warm home because when it gets below zero out your gonna wish you had it or at least had a few extra dollars to spare to turn up the heat some. Also keep in mind that if you aren't using any electrical items then it would be best to unplug them.

5.) Bring the blankets out.

Another good tip to save energy this winter would be to bring out the blankets. The reason for this is that they are great way to keep warm without having to turn the temperature up and burn more money in the process. Now would be a good time to go out and buy that snuggie that you have been eyeing.
