I would like to think there would be a backlash against celebrities, because I admit I am fed up with the media pressing the opinions and activities of so-called "celebrities" in my face. These "beautiful" people may be good at one thing, but it doesn't mean we have to believe they are worthy of giving opinions on other subjects, or that we are all interested in their intimate lives. I certainly am not.
Today, Sunday, I looked at the British newspapers and wondered why there were so many articles about "celebs" and their lives/opinions/activities. There was more information about these topics than there was "real" news!
Is this just a smokescreen to mislead the ordinary person as to what is actually happening around them? Like the magician on stage, are they doing a misdirection on purpose so that they (political leaders using the captive media) can do something else to the detriment of our own lives?
Worldwide Celebrity status began with Hollywood and the film industry. All earlier celebrities were confined to a limited geographical audience. The camera changed all that.
But, like the category of Westerns both in films and tv, it is possible to saturate the market so much that people sicken of that product and refuse to have anything to do with it for many years to come. So it will be with Celebrities, especially if they continue to lack any real substance, class or style.
Modern celebs tend to be superficial, with little screen presence, or public persona. The UK celebrity Jade Goody is a case in point, whereby she somehow won an ordinary "Big Brother" programme and from then on considered she was important enough for people to worship everything she did. When she went into a "celebrity" version of Big Brother she ended up showing how uncouth and anti-social she actually was. Since then she has been trying to present herself as a caring person - why? Because she likes being thought of as an important person, a celebrity? Sorry, but I consider her to be but one of many unimportant people that the media is pushing "in my face". No wonder I don't have a tv! There is no programme of any quality, and the participants (actors, and the like) are of such a poor standard that anyone can do what they do!
Celebrities? I am already hating them, and have no time for anyone who considers themselves to be anything but an ordinary person who happens to do a job which lots of the public see.
