It may seem like once you have decided that you want an iPhone that you can stop looking at phones and simply place your order, but the truth is that there are a few different choices and if you are going to spend a considerable amount of money, and be forced to sign a contract with at&t it is well worth finding the best choice, and there are a few different choices at the moment.
There are currently two types of iPhone you can get at the apple store. The iPhone 3Gs and the iPhone 4. Both of these have pros and cons. In addition there are a number of different sizes of each of these phone and knowing how much hard drive space you want is not always easy.
The first of the questions should be easy. The iPhone 4 is the newest of the apple iPhones and has a better screen, front facing camera and several other options. In addition apple makes its products obsolete quickly so it is well worth buying the newest phone in general. Sadly with the iPhone 4 this decision is not that easy. The iPhone 4 has antenna issues which makes it a bit less useful as a phone. This means that you need to consider your own situation when it comes to reception. If your reception is good most or all of the places you want to use the phone then this might not be a big deal but if you already have reception problems with at&t the iPhone 4 could make it considerably worse. In this case the 3G is an excellent phone and you should not feel too bad about picking one up.
The next point is that of hard drive. This is a bit easier question and the old adage is general the best which is to buy the largest hard drive that you can afford. That said the hard drives in the iPhone are more expensive that the average and so in this case I would suggest that you decide on the size you think you may need and then buy the next larger size. Keep in mind that you will not only want all of your music on this device, but apps as well, and possibly other things too so you will want to consider this more like a computer and less like a phone when considering the amount of space you want because if you're not going to use it like a computer there are a lot cheaper phones.
