Why the Cleveland Browns need to show improvement for the 2010-11 NFL season

The pressure is going to be on the Cleveland Browns to make some progress. They got rid of Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson in favor of Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. Wallace is known as a guy who really has been a career back-up and can be useful when needed. He fits into the Holmgren style of offense and can help get the job done. There are reasons to think that there needs to be some serious changes and needs some serious improvement in order to get the job done.

The injuries are going to have to slow down. Whatever training or lack thereof has to be put to an end because it gets ridiculous seeing the Browns with more injuries than everyone else it seems like. Of course, that’s just what it looks like and that’s merely an observation. It is one of the biggest concerns that the franchise has had. It appears that they seem to get hit with the injury bug consistently and have had that as a constant excuse on why they can’t contend. Okay, maybe not using it but it seems like it could be used.

Coaching will have to improve. The Browns in the last four games looked like a football team for a change. At the beginning, they looked like a team that could be set up as a punching bag. Mangini and crew have to step it up to make it last a full season. If they cannot do that or will not, there will be some changes made once again. Constant coach changes haven’t helped either because what it has done is lead them in a never-ending rebuilding state.

The passing game is in need of improvement. Since they got rid of Quinn and Anderson, it is an area with a legit question mark when it counts during the regular season. The pre-season saw some potential with Delhomme and Wallace being used. This could mean that both guys will be used. They get the passing game going fine; they might have a shot at doing something positive.

The players that Cleveland drafted that are still with them have to really step up and continue to show what they’ve got. Joe Thomas has been in the Pro Bowl and has looked like a good pick and must continue to do so. Only time will tell on this one and will be based around. If they can step up and that’s a big if, then and only then can the Browns look forward to something promising for a change.

Its defense is going to need to do something. Last season, there were signs of promise but will need to continue to do so in order to prove to the rest of the league that they mean business. The fewer amounts of points given up will surely help out greatly. Continue to pressure the Quarterback by any means necessary as long as it’s within the rules of course.

It’s an area that needs to improve and for this season, it means something big for the Cleveland Browns. If they want to no longer embarrass the fan base, then quite honestly they must step up and really make the fans proud.
