The Lord Jesus Christ laid down for all Christ followers a divine imperative, in Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” This is a divine commandment that has never been rescinded. It is still very much in vogue today, as it was when Jesus Christ first uttered it...
As Christ followers we each are required to be witnesses for the cause of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are called upon to “sew the seeds” of the Gospel. . Psalm 126: 5-6 declares “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He, who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. “O may it please the Lord to allow us, His people in these days to reap a harvest and bountifully bring in the sheaves of an end time harvest.
As Christ followers today it is our great privilege and awesome responsibility to sew the seeds of the Gospel. Recently I was looking at the parable of the Sower in Matthew 13: 1-9; 18- 23. In this parable the Lord Jesus talks about the four different types of soil that the “seed” fell on, the seed fell on:
The wayside and the birds ate it before it took root and sprouted.Stony places but because there was no root system the plant soon died. Some feel among the thorns were quickly choked out. Some fell on good ground and produced a crop in abundance.
This parable is generally interpreted to mean that the “seed” is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it falls in different environments, each of which affects the outcome in a different way. . Seed needs to be sown but where it is sown is very important. We need to strive to sew the seed in “the good ground.” Then it will produce an abundant crop. Praise God!
Recently, as I was reading this parable again, the Holy Spirit shone the spotlight of revelation into my heart. I plainly heard the Spirit speaking to me and telling me that this parable also has a personal message for me. I felt strongly that the four types of soil that Jesus mentions in the parable can exist in my own heart simultaneously, and I must determine which one I am going to allow the seed of the Gospel to nurture in... I found myself meditating on this point for a while.
