In this day and age when almost everything is being "accepted" Santa clause is no exception. What's more fun for children? A big, overweight, jolly man giving out presents or a baby in a manger? That in and of itself is a no brainer. What child wouldn't want to get something with a big bow on the top? I know that when I was a child I loved sitting on Santa's lap and telling him all the things that I wanted to get for Christmas. That is what I thought until I began to grow up and realize who Santa really was and that he wasn't a real person but only a person in a costume pretending to be someone else.
Then I learned of this precious little baby born in manger on a cold winter night in a stable. They literally had nothing but the clothes on their backs and were not only happy but grateful for this stable that they had with a manger to lay their precious bundle into. That to me is so much more special then Santa. It took a great miracle to allow a virgin named Mary to give birth to a baby that was conceived in her womb by the God himself. God allowed his son Jesus Christ to be born of this wonderful woman. Gifts at Christmas comes naturally to most of us because we don't stop and take the time to think about the true meaning of the Christmas season but Jesus Christ is the gift.
It is in fact a holiday I don't deny that but why can't this holiday be called Christmas instead of x-mas? Why are we taking the CHRIST out of Christmas? Once I learned the true meaning of Christmas and that Santa wasn't really real, it wasn't fun to believe in him anymore. I felt almost in some ways let down. Why would someone want to dress up in a costume and sit in a chair to listen to what hundreds of children want to get for Christmas? Wouldn't you rather sit and listen to a story about a baby, born by virgin birth to a mother who got the best Christmas present of all? Jesus Christ the one sent down from Heaven to save sinners from their sins. Who knew he was destined to do great things? Who knew that his birth would be so special?
It is about time we get Christmas back to what it is meant to be. Not some commercilized, got to have it, greedy and selfish holiday but some holiday that we are proud of. Proud to welcome this wonderful, precious, tiny life into the world to save the lost souls and create a better life for all. God sent his son Jesus the Christ to be born, live and die on the cross for us all. Now there is one reason to Celebrate the true meaning of the Christmas season.
