Sylvia has a high record of being accurate. She has never claimed to be 100% accurate. From what I could see, there wasn't a mention in media accounts that the parents actually paid 700 dollars for a reading. It looks like the boy's parents appeared on the Montel Williams show and asked for help in 2003. Montel usually will try to have people call in that need help from Sylvia and then they appear on the show. They are flown to Chicago, and don't pay money for a reading.

Critics are easy to jump on the fact that when anyone makes a mistake, it means they are wrong all of the time. All that can really be judged about her is her overall record. Often she mentions in books comments from her readings and how it may relate to items she is trying to teach others. Mostly she is on the side of outrageous interpretations that might upset several people. And then when there is a slip-up, critics jump at the chance to say everything she does has been wrong and a sham.

It is also possible that she read the signs wrong. Most psychics receive the information in different forms, either spirit guides, visions, smells, or even symbols. They have to interpret it into words that can explain what they feel, see, or even hear. She may have just misinterpreted a feeling/sensing of the boy, which could have felt he was dead. Do the thing that most critics don't want you to. Make your own judgement. If you don't think psychics are real or shams, don't waste your money. People who need a psychic's services will pay for them. But only they can judge if they need it.
