Crocheting, the art of creating interlocked stitches by doing needlework with a hooked needle, can allow you to produce clothing for the family, accessories, and household items. Imagining a crocheted sweater, purse, or baby blanket laying across a chair in your home may make you smile, but I am sure you are thinking that these items can be purchased at the store or at least created by someone other than you. So why should you personally invest the time and energy to learn to crochet? Read the remainder of this article to find out why learning to crochet could be a good choice for you.
Learning to crochet builds your vocabulary and your comprehension skills. Often we think that expanding our vocabulary or sustaining good comprehension skills is only necessary while we are going through the primary and secondary school years. Yet, maintaining these skills can and should be a life long habit. Learning to crochet requires that you learn new vocabulary words which are associated with the subject. Reading of and comprehending crochet pattern instructions can easily test your comprehension skills. If your comprehension skills have been a bit weak in the past, learning to crochet will give you an excellent opportunity to work at improving your understanding of word order and sentence structure.
Learning to crochet can also build your math skills. If you haven't thought about fractions, long division, or measurements for many years, completing crochet projects will get your mind revved up to start performing math calculations again.
Learning to crochet can open up a new world of friends to you. Initially, you may crochet alone; but more than likely you will begin to seek out others that crochet. Finding such people and spending time crocheting with them can lead to hours of fun and life-long friendships.
Crocheting can increase your self-confidence. Often in a world where we feel like tasks never get completed, finished crocheted projects can become a powerful reminder to you that you can complete a task.
Learning to crochet can give you time to break away from the busyness and frustrations that build up within everyday life. Having to focus on maintaining the correct number of stitches per row, keeping the stitch tension consistent, and checking and re-checking your work minimizes the time you'd use up to stress about other circumstances in life.
In summary, refreshed comprehension and math skills, new friends, less stress, and finished crocheted projects that you can admire for years are all reasons that make learning to crochet not only a good choice but a great one.
