I find it comforting to look back at a time in my past that was filled with much happiness, and a special feeling of belonging. Getting nostalgic now and then, can be a cathartic experience for my heart and soul. I am an emotional, sentimental person who reflects on the past, when a memory comes alive, or a change has occurred. I can take myself back to that time in my life which may have been a long time ago, when things were different.
I think back on my childhood and reflect about my parents and the wonderful times we shared. My parents have passed away now and their presence stays alive in my thoughts when I reminisce about times long ago. I recall the family excursions and trips that were planned for enjoyment. Visiting family members and friends "back in the day" when life seemed easier. I remember the smell of salt water as we vacationed by the beach. The feel of cotton candy and the melt in my mouth sensation that happened as the candy dissolved to a wonderful, sweet treat. The feel of water in my nose as I learned how to swim. My parents and I having fun in the warmth of the sunshine and the comfort of each others company. It was a unique time when I felt protected and loved. I do feel that way today, but, as a child life is much simplier and myopic.
When I was a freshman in high school there was a traditional father daughter dance aptly called "The Pop Hop." I went to an all girl school so everyone in the class were females and we got to bring our dads to the dance. It was fun and special for both my dad and me. We danced, had some food and enjoyed the special evening. My friends were there with their dads and we all talked, laughted and had a lot of fun. During my junior year of high school, we had a ring ceremony that our mothers were invited to. We received our class rings and had a delicious breakfast with our moms. It was a beautiful sunny day in May, a week before Mother's Day which made it even more special, a mother daughter celebration of love. I remember the proud look my mother displayed as I was handed my class ring. An accomplishment that was all the more sweeter because, my mom was there and a big part of it. As I look back now I am grateful I have those wonderful memories
