If want to go on a weekend getaway, but you do not have a lot of money, there are options. Many different places offer ways that you can look to find great deals on these short and sweet weekend vacations.

Consider the following ideas:

Look at the travel section of the newspaper

You can often see great deals in the travel section of the newspapers.  Some vacation spots are suffering because of the difficult economy and they may be advertising some fantastic prices in this section of the newspaper.  It might be on a hotel or a package in general.  You should peruse it regularly because you never know when something pops up.

Cruise lines

Oftentimes cruises are great as weekend getaways.  They can be very reasonable on their weekend trips, especially if you do not spend a lot on excursions, gambling or drinking.  They include quite a bit so you will not have too many extra costs if you do not wish to do so.  You can go inexpensive by getting an interior, smaller room or looking for other discounts you may be eligible for such as a senior or military discount.  These can be a lot of fun and will certainly qualify as a getaway.

Look online

You will find many great weekend getaway deals online.  Many hotels will have specials where they give you a discount. You can look at websites like Orbitz and Travelocity.  Some hotels will give you a free night if you spend two.  You will find packages as well that include airfare, hotel, etc. 

Timeshares

There are many timeshares that are looking to sell.  They will often offer eligible people a significantly discounted or even free weekend getaway.  You usually have to attend one or a few sales sessions, but these are often a very small amount of time compared to what you are getting.  You often have to meet certain qualifications such as a certain income.  These are in many areas of the country and are often centered in some of the high tourist areas such as Orlando, Florida. 

There are many places where you can find great deals for weekend getaways.  Of course, you can also just look for a getaway that is cheaper such as a camping trip.  You can drive to somewhere nearby so that you do not have to spend a lot on transportation and then it usually costs very little to camp, especially if you have the supplies.  Look at places that offer such facilities as well as the above ideas for inexpensive weekend getaways.
