India has several means of transportations like airplane, train, bus, taxi and boats. Air travel is most convenient between cities but air route may not cover several small towns.
Trains:
It is well connected by rail and road and boasts of the Asia’s largest and second largest rail system in the world. Trains are very reasonable in fare price and cover most of the areas of the country. In India about 14 million people travel by train each day. Most of the major cities and towns have booking counters for trains and online booking is also easy. Travel agents of the hotel and outside can book the tickets for the travelers.
Trains for long distances have sleeper facility and air conditioned coaches are much more comfortable to travel. Most of the major cities operate local suburban trains but it would be very crowded during peak hours. Train fares are calculated based on distance of travel and class of travel such as Air conditioned first class or second class. Major stations have retiring room and cloak room which are convenient. Trains are the convenient means of transport in India for long distance travel.
Indian railways also run special services for tourists across diverse routes. It also runs hotels on wheels with 5 star facilities serving special Indian cuisine for tourists to explore the taste and hospitality of India. Tourists interested in travelling India by rail can avail of India-rail pass for easy tours across Indian subcontinent. Few of the popular trains in mystifying India for tourists are the Palace on Wheels, The Royal Orient, The Rajdhani Express, the Taj Express, The Pinkcity Express and the Toy trains running in hill stations like Ootacamand, Shimla, Darjeeling etc.
Cars:
Tourist cars with local drivers are very convenient to use. All the cities and towns have tourist car operators. Air conditioned cars common and suitable for most of climates of India. Local drivers know the routes well and can make the tourist reach the destination comfortably. Many of the tourist car operators provide valuable information about local destinations and accommodation.
Self driven rented cars are available in selected cities of India. It is very useful for travelers who know the routes and the places well. It is much easier and convenient to use a driver driven cab.
Buses:
Both air conditioned and ordinary buses are available between cities and towns. Private and state owned buses provide luxury tours and intercity travel services. Bus tickets can be booked online, it is better to obtain local information about bus timings and routes covered.
Rickshaws:
Auto rickshaws are automobiles with three wheels which are very convenient to travel within a city. It is a unique means of transport in India which costs less. Travelers can use auto rickshaws between cities but auto rickshaws do not have doors and can accommodate 3 or 4 passengers depending upon the model used. Local people are very helpful to the tourists and information for any local travel can be obtained from the hotel and local travel providers.
Bikes:
To visit places less visited travelers can use motor cycle. It provides freedom to choose the time and place to travel. Motor cycles can be purchased for less money in India. Motor cycles provide the best mileage per liter of petrol consumed and makes travel cost effective. Motor cycles are comfortable to travel within India.
