Is communication over-rated

Not only is communication not over-rated, it is probably the most under-rated tool we have when relating to our fellow man!  Proper and vital communication can ward off potential catastrophes as well.  There are many forms of communication, but no matter what form is used to get the message across, accurate communication is essential to well-being.

The human being retains roughly thirty percent of all communication.  Why do you think they repeat commercials over and over again on TV and radio?  Why is it that within that commercial, the phone number is repeated over and over again, so much that you feel like tearing the radio out of the dash of the car, or throwing the remote through the screen?  It's annoying, isn't it?  But advertisers do it on purpose, as they know that in order to get the message across, it has to be repeated many times.  In my opinion, this is when communication becomes negative.

When communication is properly used and delivered, many arguments can be avoided.  Have you ever witnessed an argument between two people that could have easily been avoided if they both understood the others message?  Of course, it happens all the time!  And it's so unnecessary, because if people took the time to listen to the other persons point of view, then the objective of the dialogue could be achieved without all the fuss and bother of arguing.

Proper communication between heads of state is not only important, it can avoid wars!  That's why only the best interpreters are hired when two diplomats who speak different languages are hired.  It's critical that every word is translated in order to achieve the proper intent!  More than feelings can get hurt in these situations!

If people payed more attention to communicating the right way, then so much more could be accomplished.  We need to realize that listening is part of communicating as well.  It wouldn't hurt for all of us to listen more, and keep our mouths shut while the other person is trying to get their point across.  If we don't listen correctly, then we might make snap judgements that not only are incorrect, they hurt the person delivering the original message!  The next time you are involved in a conversation, try exercising your listening skills more, you might be surprised at just what the other person is talking about.

Communication is very, very important,as we've seen from the above examples.  We all need to try to raise our awareness of communicating properly.  We all might be surprised at how much more harmony can be accomplished with the simple but important act of proper communication!
