Can you color your pubic hair? and is it safe?

As a hairdresser, I know you can color your pubic hair but I would not use bleach or high volume peroxide. You can use 10 volume or 15 volume peroxide and this will deposit color. By deposit, I mean cover gray or lighten a shade or two.

Before you decide what color, I would speak with a professional hairdresser. There is always new things coming out on the market. If you don't want to talk to anyone and you are dead set on doing it than do a patch test. You want to test the area to make sure your not allergic. If you can get someone to do the coloring for you than do it. Someone else can see better to apply it.

Apply only to the hair and not the skin. Stay away from opened areas. Don't shave any of the area because it will be open to infection and get irritated. Do not over process, read directions very carefully and watch the processing time. Also another suggestion would be don't cut the hair until after your done coloring. Shampoo thoroughly and condition too.

Most salons don't provide this service, mainly for safety reasons. I know professional dancers and strippers do this because my mother was a hairdresser and she told me they had some clients that who would come in for this service. They bleached and colored everything and were paid a considerable amount of money. Actually, I think shaved looks better or very little hair.

Looking for the right product is important. You want something with no ammonia because ammonia is what damages the hair and burns the skin. As a professional, I have access to many products but if your not a registered cosmetologist you may have a hard time getting what you need.

There are many products on the market that are safer than back in the old days so try the beauty supply house and ask them. Many of them are registered cosmetologists. You may want to ask for a product that only deposits color. Many of these are temporary but you can see if you like it first before your stuck with it.

Hennas, temporary colors, rinses and glazes are the safest to use. Products without ammonia or peroxide are also safe. The main thing to remember is to not get color on the skin. Your skin is very sensitive in certain areas more so than other areas.

If you decide to color your pubic hair by yourself I suggest using a tint brush. This will enable you to apply it with as little color as possible. Using a tint brush will also enable you to apply color to the hair without dripping. Remember to watch processing time and don't go walking around. You want to avoid getting color anywhere else.

After you've achieved your desired color, rinse thoroughly and wash the area with a mild shampoo. Apply a good penetrating conditioner and rinse again.
