Looking for God in the midst of personal pain

by Cindy Krebs

Created on: September 01, 2010

We all go through some form of personal pain in our lifetime. Whether it be physical or emotional pain, we all have different tolerances. And even people that have never prayed to God before will try when they feel as though they have endured to their limits. This is usually when we come to realize that He does exist and He does love us.  It is a shame that we are so stubborn that it takes some tragedy to befall us before we cry out to God, however that is the case more often then not. It's usually only when we are broken and humble that we recognize Him for the first time.

We also find out in the midst of our personal pain, that not only is God there, but that He has been there the entire time. It is that we stepped away from Him, not the other way around. For we often think that we are strong enough to do it all on our own. We also come to realize that not only does He love us with such a total and complete love that it is hard for us to understand, but He also only wants what is best for us. It is not His will that we go through anything bad, but we are the ones that bring it on. We tend to bring it on ourselves; usually by making bad choices. It is God who can turn bad things around and make something good come out of them.

Just like being a parent of an infant child, you don't ever want your child to be hurt or go through anything bad, right? You can be there every second telling them, watching them, following them, and moving things away from them. But as hard as you try, at some point in time they are going to step out in their own independence and they are going to fall for the first time. And when they do, who do they look for? That's right, You, their parent, the one they know loves them. It's the same way with God, we are His children and He is our Father. He only has our best interests at heart, but he gave us free will to make choices. He wants us to read His word and make the right choices, but we don't always do that. Just like our children certainly don't always listen to us or make the right choices either. Never the less,  He is there to pick us up, and love us.
