Noosa Heads National Park is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth a visit if in this special part of Australia. Noosa Heads is one of two surf beaches on the long Queensland coast which stretches from the sub tropics into the full tropical at Cape York, Australia's most northerly point. The other surf beach is Agnes Water further north. Now both these beaches due to coastal identations face north. Many of the other beaches looking straight out into the Pacific Ocean on the Queensland coast are tidal and shallow. Much of Noosa Heads' appeal is this fact that there are many surfing coves around the Noosa Heads National Park.
To get to this National Park, sitting atop one of the heads here, it would be best to come from the nearest destination with an international airport, Brisbane. Hire a vehicle and travel north on the Bruce Highway to the Sunshine coast, passing through Caloundra, Nambour and finally the sign turning off the highway to Noosa Heads appears. Drive into the main settlement of luxury accomodation and turn right as soon as you get into Hastings Street, the main thoroughfare and follow the coast around abour two kilometrs of winding road to the entrance of the National Park. One can walk through the park or around it,either way it will come out at the end which is known as Lions head and the view of the Pacific Ocean and nearby Sunshine Beach is stunning.
The coastal walk takes one past granite Bay where there are natural formations of square blocks of granite patterning the shoreline. This is most worthy of a photo as this rock formation is very rare. Continuing along the edge of the Noosa National Park, there are views of at least three more almost private surf beaches, which are only for experienced surfers as there are many underwater rocks under the waves. As one reaches the end of the park there are two headlands known as the Lion's head and there are quite steep drops from both of these so take care not to slip down. Looking right or south from this vantage point one can view the wild waves of Sunshine Beach.
To walk the inland track back through the park reminds the visitor that they are in the sub tropics as the forested nature of the vegetation here is full of some palms, bouganvillea, monsterio delicio, frangipani and hibiscus amongst Australian gums which always seem to be in the bushy areas of Australia. Accomodation is plentiful in this area.
