Will Hillary Clinton ever be president?

by Elizabeth M Young

Created on: August 31, 2010

After watching a young man rise from community organizing and academics to bypass Hilary Clinton, at the time the most popular political woman in US history, there is nothing that would call for a definitive answer to this question. The pros and cons of Hillary Clinton, however, might be worth a look to see if her fortunes could be improved after President Obama's first and probably only term in office.

The fact is that President Obama took a position that can be called a "lid loosener" job. Anyone who took on the current presidency was bound to face enormous odds against making wholesale and comprehensive corrections to the mass of problems that were and are being faced by this country.  This individual would be forced to work against all forms of opposition, especially those entities who made the mess in the first place. His function is to undo as much damage as possible, to take the fair and unfair political and social attacks in stride, and to move on after one term.

Pros:

It is the next president who will whip the loosened lid off of America's troubles with a flourish, taking the credit and the applause in the process. Hillary Clinton presents an excellent alternative to any other candidate, given her long career in politics and her current  job in foreign policy. In two years, she would be in a beautiful political position, especially if the 2010 mid term elections return congressional power to the very people who created the mess in the first place. Voters will be very tired of them, that is unless they finish the destructive job that they started.

Secretary Clinton is in a prime position to identify and to fix many of the weak spots in party leadership and unity, to know the massive number of actions that have already been accomplished, but which are never publicized with any affect, and to play to the greatest needs, angers, frustrations and desires of the American voter.

Cons:

She comes with Clinton era ideas, advisers and staff who would probably try for Clinton era solutions, and this could be a big mistake. Bill Clinton functioned with a solid economy, economic growth and no apparent problems aside from those with his character and integrity. Playing outdated political games based on past expectations of results, while working the wrong strategies may be a serious flaw two years from now.

Hillary Clinton is disliked beyond reason by far too many voters, even if her loyal supporters are unfailing in their favor toward her.
